GoDaddy DNS Setup Guide

This guide walks you through adding your DMARC record to GoDaddy.

Prerequisites

  • GoDaddy account
  • Your domain registered with GoDaddy
  • DMARC record from DMARC Nerd
  • Access to Domain Manager

Step-by-Step Instructions

1. Log in to GoDaddy

  1. Go to godaddy.com
  2. Click Sign in (top right)
  3. Enter your credentials

2. Go to Domain Manager

  1. After logging in, click My Products or Account
  2. Look for Domains section
  3. Click on Manage All
  4. Find your domain in the list and click it

3. Navigate to DNS Records

  1. Click on your domain name to open it
  2. Under Manage options, look for DNS or DNS Records
  3. Click DNS Settings or Manage DNS
  4. You’ll see GoDaddy’s DNS editor

4. Add a New DNS Record

  1. Look for the Add button or + icon
  2. Click to add a new record
  3. A form will appear

5. Configure the DMARC Record

Fill in the following:

Type:

  • Click the dropdown (might say “A”)
  • Select TXT from the list

Name/Host:

  • Enter _dmarc (just this, without your domain)
  • GoDaddy should append your domain automatically

Value/Data:

  • Paste your DMARC record from DMARC Nerd
  • Example: v=DMARC1; p=none; rua=mailto:[email protected]

TTL (optional):

  • Leave as default or set to 600-3600 seconds
  • Lower TTL = faster updates (but more server load)

6. Save Your Record

  1. Click Save or Add Record button
  2. GoDaddy will process the record
  3. You should see a confirmation

7. Refresh to Verify

  1. You may need to refresh the page to see your new record
  2. Look for your _dmarc TXT record in the list
  3. Status should show as active

Verifying Your Record

Option 1: GoDaddy Manager

  1. Go back to DNS Records
  2. Look for your _dmarc record
  3. Should show type “TXT” and your record content

Option 2: Online DNS Tool

  1. Go to mxtoolbox.com
  2. Select TXT Lookup
  3. Enter _dmarc.yourdomain.com
  4. Run lookup - should show your record

Option 3: DMARC Nerd

  1. Log in to DMARC Nerd
  2. Domain settings
  3. Click Verify DNS Record
  4. Should confirm as verified

Troubleshooting

Record not showing up?

  • Confirm you selected TXT type (not A or CNAME)
  • Verify the Name is exactly _dmarc with underscore
  • Check that Value contains your full DMARC record
  • Try clicking Add Record again
  • Wait 5-15 minutes for propagation

GoDaddy says duplicate record?

  • You may already have a DMARC record
  • Delete the old one or edit it instead of creating new
  • Only one DMARC record should exist

Changes not taking effect?

  • Give it 10-15 minutes to propagate
  • Try clearing your browser cache
  • Check with an online DNS checker tool

Common GoDaddy Issues

  • Automatic ”@” sign: GoDaddy may automatically add ”@” - remove it if present
  • Domain suffix: GoDaddy adds your domain automatically - just enter _dmarc
  • Quotes: GoDaddy may add quotes - that’s OK, they’re part of the record

What Happens Next?

  1. Your DMARC record is now live
  2. Propagation should complete within 15 minutes
  3. Email servers start checking your policy
  4. Monday morning, you’ll receive your first report
